Description

First-Class Mother’s Cross (gold category), awarded for having eight or more children; second model (1939–45), two-piece construction, featuring blue, white, and black vitreous enamel (with a small flaw in the enamel). The award is shaped like a Christian cross, with the outward-extending arms finished in semi-transparent blue enamel and bordered in white enamel; sun rays emanate from between the arms. It features a central circular field on a white-enameled base, bearing a black swastika surrounded by the raised inscription in the Latin alphabet: “Der Deutschen Mutter” (“The German Mother”). The reverse side bears a simulated handwritten inscription, “16 Dezember 1938,” along with a facsimile of Hitler’s signature. It comes complete with its complet original two-tone (blue and white) rayon ribbon.
