Description

The Morocco Peace Medal was established by King Alfonso XIII via a Royal Decree dated November 21, 1927. Its primary purpose was to commemorate the pacification and successful conclusion of military operations in the Spanish Protectorate of Morocco following the end of the Rif War, covering the period of campaigns from 1909 to 1927.

Oval in shape and crafted from silver, the medal features on its obverse a crescent moon at the bottom, bearing the word “MARRUECOS” (Morocco). Above this, set against an African landscape, is a radiant sun inscribed with the word “PAZ” (Peace) and the dates 1909–1927. The suspension piece is shaped like a dove of peace holding an olive branch in its beak, topped by the Spanish Royal Crown. The reverse bears the inscription: “SPAIN, ALWAYS FAITHFUL TO ITS TREATIES, FULFILLED ITS DUTY—THROUGH THE BLOOD OF ITS SONS AND THE VALOR OF ITS ARMIES—BY BRINGING PEACE AND CIVILIZATION TO MOROCCO: A GREAT HUMANITARIAN ENDEAVOR.”

The medal comes with its original white ribbon, which features the colors of the Spanish national flag along the edges and green borders. A six-pointed silver star is affixed to the center of the ribbon.
