Luftwaffe/ Officer Leather Greatcoat

This example is the correct type of leather coat which was issued by the Luftwaffe and not a privately purchased period time leather coat often offered as a military example.

Greatcoat (Ledermantel) of very good quality, heavy, still very supple grey-blue leather, double-breasted style, full length, coat with turned-back lapels and turned-down collar. The coat features 2 double, vertical, parallel rows of six front closure buttons with corresponding buttonholes, all marked “Assmann”, the buttons are of the removable type held by metal washers, on the shoulder boards are screw-on. It has two front pockets at the hips, diagonally slanted, slash shaped, with slightly angled pleats over the flaps at the waist with exit opening for the dagger or sword carabiner which is still present. Straight-cut, snap-adjustable sleeves have French cuffs with deep back pleats sewn vertically. Full lining. It has several pockets, one with a “Prym” brand zipper. Shows expected wear and tear over the period but is in excellent condition.
