BACKGROUND: Georg Wolf, great and sought-after German painter born in 1882 and died in 1962, landscapes, animals, and military subjects were his genre. After attending the school of arts and crafts in Strasbourg from 1899 to 1901, he served in the military from 1901 to 1903 in the 2nd Bavarian Infantry Regiment based in Munich. In this regiment, after attending the Düsseldorf Academy between 1906 and 1908, he participated in the First World War. Many of his most famous paintings come from this period. In 1937 he entered the “Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung” in Munich with an oil painting. After World War II, perhaps Wolf’s best-known period, numerous witnesses remain to his masterful work on animals and landscapes.

DESCRIPTION: We offer for sale an ORIGINAL self-portrait in Gouache on paper at the beginning of his military service with marching equipment in 1901 of the famous German painter “Georg Wolf”. The drawing shows the painter in a side view as an infantryman leaning on his weapon. It comes framed and under period glass, so it is in perfect condition, the drawing measures 59.6 cm X 40.3 cm, and with a frame 83.5 cm X 55 cm, it is signed and dated on the lower right ” G. Wolf 1901″. On the back of the frame, cut out has a stamp from the catalog of him with the number “202”. Excellent work of this quoted German painter.
