1914 Iron Cross, 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914), with no maker’s marks. The cross features a classic three-piece construction, with an iron core and a silver frame.

The frame has developed a beautiful, natural patina. The smooth, black finish of the iron core remains in very good condition. The cross has a very attractive period appearance and is in exceptional condition—with the exception of the ribbon, which, while original, no longer retains its Austrian-style fold.

The Iron Cross, 2nd Class, was awarded during the First World War for bravery in combat and for military merit. The decoration was reinstated by Kaiser Wilhelm II on August 5, 1914, following the outbreak of the First World War.
