WH/ Winter Battle in the East 1941/42 Medal

Description

(Winterschlacht im Osten 1941-42). Known as the “Frozen Meat” medal. The medal made of zinc is round with a concave shape, it has a WH eagle holding a swastika superimposed on an oak leaf, ring on model 35 helmet with stick grenade inside. The obverse is convex with the legend “Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42” as well as a crossed sword with an oak leaf. The band has red colors with a black and white stripe, the black being double the white, it is believed that the red responds to the blood shed in the fight, the white the snow and the black honors the memory of the fallen in the battle.
