Description
With a ribbon vanguard and clasp, the medal features on the obverse, in matte black, a lion slaying a dragon, representing communism, with the radiant sun in the background and the legend “17 JVLIO 1936”. In the background and in gold, the four swords of the Laureate Cross of Saint Ferdinand, whose laurels form the outline. On the reverse, there is the figure of an eagle in gold, which holds the coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs in matte black in its talons. Next to the coat of arms, and also in black, are a helmet and a bundle of five arrows below the “EGAÑA” arrows. As a border, it has a circular crown with two sections, one in matte black, which features the legend “ARRIBA ESPAÑA”, and the other in gold, with the legends “GENERALÍSIMO FRANCO VÍCTOR” (in initials and anagram) and “UNA GRANDE LIBRE IMPERIAL M. HISP. GLOR.”
Note: This is a standard model Civil War Campaign medal, but as it does not have a Torch or Pinecone (Roman symbol of fortune), it is not the specific model for the Condor Legion.
