Description

Perhaps one of the few times that an extraordinary Kriegsmarine U-Boat Eight Day Bulkhead clock from WW2 comes up for sale in perfect working order and in this exceptional condition. It has a brass case, a weatherproof hinged glass cover, and the gasket. The 18 cm diameter watertight silver-plated steel dial with black Arabic numerals also features the eight-pointed star with a “J” in the center, this is the logo of the “Uhrenfabrik Junghans” company, which manufactured 80% of this type of KM clocks. It also has a KM-style eagle with a swastika above the “M” on the left, indicating the Marine (Navy), and the serial number on the right “1568” with an “N” below, this indicates that the clock was issued for a submarine in the Nordsee (North Sea) fleet. It retains its original locking and winding key. Perfect functioning. Almost impossible to improve. Textbook quality.

During WWII the German military authorities laid down strict regulations concerning the issuing of timepieces. The Kriegsmarine had overall responsibility for the issue and maintenance of all military timepieces. Any clock requiring maintenance had to be returned to the Kriegsmarine command where inventories were kept at the naval ports of Wilhelmshaven, Kiel, and Gotenhafen.
